Get quotes from several BBQ restaurants, they vary alot in pricing. You can have someone (a friend)pick it up and deliver to your Wedding site. That way you will save a bunch on the delivery and set up fees. Just ask the restaurant if they will let you borrow their chaffers and serving utensils. Good Luck. The Carolina Cooking Team.

Welcome to the community, louriaj!
That's a great tip and I've never used them, but I'm familiar with them and they seem to be reasonably priced, too.

It all sounds great to have every one bring a dish, but on your wedding day, you may need to have your thoughts on some other things. There is a restaurant chain "Famous Dave's" that does most of the items you listed. You may want to think about them or someone else for your main dishes. They really do a fantastic pulled pork.

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage Lauralee and welcome to the Kraftfoods community. Your wedding sounds like it will be fun and memorable.
You might check out some of the recipes they assembled for pot lucks here: http://www.kraftfoods.com/kf/Entertaining/HolidaysEvents/PotluckMenuIdeas.aspx
Recently at our Godson's wedding, they gave seedlings from the Arbor Day Foundation as the wedding favors.

when we had our daughters wedding a year ago I had one of her freinds who was going to culinary school pick up the order food from a local bbq place and then we put them out buffet style, everyone was pleased. You could do crock pot of Bush's baked beans, coleslaw you can make yourself -- I make mine this way and everyone raves; get yourself the alrready cut and prepared packages of coleslaw by the bagged lettuce and then I get bottles of T. Marzetti's coleslaw dressing mix together refrig overnight, wala -done, soemtimes i add a lil sugar right before serving.
I do like irishgirl's idea of the pork that would be easy. I usually cook my pork in my crock pot with seasoning but don't add the sauce until before ready to serve, if you cook it in the sauce it dries it out more.
We had her cake made at the grocery store for the wedding, they did a nice job and it was only 1/4 of the price the bakery wanted. $400 insteadof 1200! they also delivered it and set it up too.
Good luck

I just got married this past April 18th, and we did bbq pork sammies. mmmm-mmm! Plenty of folks went back for seconds We got the pork butt on a 99-cent-lb special, and we pre-ordered buns to be made fresh (and SUPER cheap) by a local bakery.
We didn't go the cupcake route due to mess and time contraints, but our pineapple flavored cake with whipped white frosting was another hit.
Congratulations and Best of Luck!

I hosted a 40th birthday party for my husband 2 years ago. He wanted to roast a pig but it was too expensive. We had pulled pork sandwiches instead. The month before the party I bought pork roasts when they were on sale and cooked them 2 at a time in my sister's turkey roaster. When they were done I pulled all the pork and put it in freezer bags in the freezer. The day before the party I took the pork out of the freezer to defrost. Day of the party i split up the pork between several large crockpots and added our favorite bbq sauce. The party was buffet style so everyone served themselves. I got raves about the pork. I hope this helps. Blessings on your wedding.

My fiance and I are getting married in Sept and having a wedding/reception at a state park with a Southern Garden Party' theme. We wanted pulled pork bbq, cole slaw, peach cobbler, potato salad, and cup cakes instead of regular wedding cake. Most of our friends love to cook, us included, so we don't have a caterer, we sort of having a, bring a dish kind of pot luck, party. Any ideas or recipes contributions?
