No. It was my kids when putting ketchup on their fries.

I did an engagement dinner for about 20 people that was reasonable. I got the stuffed chicken breast recipe from kraft and made that. My other friends chipped in by providing a green salad, a fruit tray, drinks, garlic bread, and for extra we had spaghetti with beef for those that did not want chicken. It would have been reasonably priced without the help but saved me time and money. Also, I bought the chicken breast on the bone and cut it up myself instead of buying the packaged chicken breast and that cut the cost too. For dessert I made a tiramisu cheese cake-also on the kraft site-and people liked it.

I don't plan on spending anywhere near $60.00 on food for your wake, and I doubt if you'll complain.

Hello, I had to prepare for a wake - sorry for the example but the following was done with little effort and was inexpensive. I went to my neighborhood market that has a deli and does catering and had them prepare (50) pieces of fried chicken. Then I went to my local Costco (or Smart and Final) and bought prepared potato salad and coleslaw (cheaper than the market deli). I made a cheese and grape platter with cocktail rye and pumpernickel bread (little slices) and for dessert, I made two trays of brownies from a mix and cut them into 2 inch cubes - brownie bites. If your supermarket makes these, use theirs. I made a white wine punch using jug wine, club soda and a bit of sugar. I floated a few strawberries on top to make the punch festive. With so much color on the table, I used plain white (paper) plates and napkins and a borrowed nice table cloth. If you don't have a nice punch bowl, borrow one, to round out your table setting. All of this cost me less than $60.00 - depending on your wedding party, it may be less for you.

I think I'd buy a large honeybaked (or grocery store brand) spiral sliced ham, make a big pretty tossed salad. Make it a colorful salad like with rings of red onions, thin-sliced carrots, maybe some strawberries, warm some dinner rolls, and prepare a nice vegetable like steamed brocolli or even a brocolli/rice casserole. Add a relish tray with pickles and olives. Then do something like a pound cake with fruit and whipped cream for dessert. It's a very easy menu but depending on the table settings you use you can make it really elegant.

How about an appetizer party? Finger sandwiches, dips, cheese and crackers, and a few fancier appetizers can be easy and impressive. For large groups I only ever do appetizer parties. I love it because people mingle, the clean up is a easy and lots of appetizers can be made a few days in advance. Maybe a few family memebers will help you out and contribute a dish or two.
