What exactly would it take to revive Postum?? Since its demise in January we have scavenged the earth, buying all we could find, even cleaned the shelves in the Bahamas! Now this month, we've finally run out. We did manage to stay "alive" for 10 months beyond its last production! Is there anyone out there who is producing something similar? Where can one buy the recipe? Does any of this consumer feedback matter to Kraft?
Is there a better place to register my thoughts? (at the Kraft headquarters??)

My father had been drinking this for most of his life and he is 87 years and no cancer. His father also drank it and died from old age with no healh issues. As I see it almost everything is bad for us unless you grow it your self. I would like POSTUM back for many reasons as I do not drink caffeine and do not like the taste of coffee at all to even drink the decaf.

>It has been pointed out elsewhere that Postum was very popular among certain religious groups that do not consume caffine, where it was often consumed from childhoon on. Therefore, if Acrylamide does cause cancer, there should be evidence of higher cancer rates among such groups. This should be rather easy for some statistician to check, I would think. And if the rate of cancer is normal in these populations, then obviously the whole Acrylamide scare is much ado about nothing.
What you want is an epidimological study. And, no, it's not that difficult. You just need access to their medical records- and then adjust for cofounding factors (like smoking, diet), etc... All it takes is money and time. The interesting thing about the info is that Postum only registered high, when unbrewed. The acrylamide content of the brewed postum was quite low. (I guess the moral of that is not to eat it in the powdered form ). I question, though, if that would be the reason why Kraft would pull it. Other foods also registered quite high (such as Lipton powdered soup mix). And some brands of potato chips and french fries are even higher than Postum. Not to mention, that the acrylamide thing is a bigger issue in Europe than here in the US- and I think that it is still available in the UK? Who knows, but it does make for an interesting discussion.

Interesting point about Acrylamide in Postum. Apparently the numbers were dramatically high. http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/acrydata.html It has been pointed out elsewhere that Postum was very popular among certain religious groups that do not consume caffine, where it was often consumed from childhoon on. Therefore, if Acrylamide does cause cancer, there should be evidence of higher cancer rates among such groups. This should be rather easy for some statistician to check, I would think. And if the rate of cancer is normal in these populations, then obviously the whole Acrylamide scare is much ado about nothing.
