I am the one and only Mandi Lou. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one that knows what the word is, VEAL! I don't know what part of the country you are from, but I know what VEAL is. You obviously think it is something else! Veal is the meat of a calf. So when referring to whether or not something contains VEAL you are using the word correctly. But when referring to the "poor little veals" you are using the word INCORRECTLY. Proper use of words please! I am really getting tired of hearing the word veals.

I didn't know most veals were named Bob! That's so sad. :_|

I'm sorry Chedder, but the overwhelming majority of posters on this fine site say that it is VEALS. I know that only educated people choose Kraft products, so I choose to go with them.

Are you really Mandi with another username?

I do not have a package of frankfurters in the house to check on the ingredients but I do know that kosher frankfurters are either all-beef, or all-turkey, or sometimes all-chicken, and they contain no dairy (some manufacturers use whey as a filler, but that would be non-kosher.) However, as veal is a form of beef, it could easily be included in a kosher frankfurter without it being noted.

We do not eat frankfurters much, as I consider them wasted calories for my children. They get them in summer camp and at school so they don't need them at home, too. And we do not eat veal. My eldest saw a photograph of a calf being raised for veal (and I must say, when he showed it to me, it did look like the cage was in a cave, or at least in the dark!) and convinced the rest of us to stop eating it. My husband's mother loves it, though, and serves it whenever we visit her. My husband and I eat it as politely as we can. We taught our children to be polite and respectful of their bubbeh, but Moshe last month refused to eat it and I'm still dealing with the fight. Oy!

If you really believe that hot dogs are not made from scraps, then I have some swapmland you might be interested in buying (as they say).

Just what do you think hot dogs and baloney are made from, if not scraps and trimmings?

Chef JenJen said there might be veals in hot dogs and I believe her. She is a chef.

I hope not. I don't eat veals. I keep thinking of them in those crates all alone in caves. It's so sad. :_|

Do the Kosher ones contain veals?

The vast majority of hot dogs and frankfurters are, in fact made with fillers and byproducts. My family enjoys hot dogs, so I buy Kosher ones. Kosher law forbids the use of fillers and byproducts. They are more expensive, but worth it. Right, Mrs. R?

I think the topic is hot dogs???? This is not the "Bill and Mandi Shnuggle Wuggle" thread.

I think is it about time eveyone simmer down. The point of this entire message board was to give us a recipe which Chef Bill thought some people might enjoy. I personally love hotdogs, and so do my kids. Nothing beats a good wiener roast. If you don't like hotdogs, try brats. No need to continuously talk about how much you hate them or what you "think" is in them. Read the package next time you are in the store. I'm pretty sure it won't say pig, beef or chicken scraps. And I'm most definitely sure they don't contain "veals", whatever you all think those are.

Wow, I had never even thought about the poor veals. I promise to never eat anything with them again!
Does anyone know if there is a "save the veals" foundation that I can donate to?

I find them easier to stomach if I call them "tube steaks". I didn't know about the veals though. We'll probably stop eating them after we finish dinner.
