Tell her to make meatloaf all she needs is hamburger or ground turkey and a jar of salsa...mix together with some garlic and salt and pepper maybe an egg, bake in the oven until done...SUPER EASY and delicious!!

But you shouldn't force her. Maybe it's a loveless relationship between her and cooking.

Sounds like you need to go over there and cook with her. Show her the basics. Sounds like she needs memories of cooking to inspire her. I know that sounds hard to do if you live far away from her. Maybe she can take cooking classes. She really needs some inspiration of some kind.

HOW to you get someone to COOK!?!

Have a 26 yo niece. Married about 8 months. Did the whole "registry" thing and has a lot of nice kitchen things... a KA stand mixer, food processor, GOOD knives, GOOD cookware & cookbooks. Has had Pampered Chef, Tupperware & Tastefully Simple demos and has LOTS of gadgets and gizmos. But she doesn't COOK!?!

Was about to sign her up for Food & Family magazine MYSELF but the user name I picked has already been taken, so I think she already gets it. I like the magazine, though I'm definitely NOT into buying "name brand" ingredients. The recipes are easy and don't involve unusual things.

Her childhood was a bit rough and got NO cooking skills from home. She's totally intimidated in the kitchen. Was over for dinner one day and she was getting ready to steam some fresh green beans. This Tupperware thingie for microwave was interesting. All you had to do was add a quarter cup of water and into mike for ??-minutes. She was hunting up a measuring cup for the water!?! She's NEVER made a meatloaf... "don't know how"!?!

She's SERIOUSLY hoping to start a family SOON and would love nothing more than to be a SAHM. Closest influence is her other Aunt, my SIL who I love to pieces. I'm frugal by nature and necessity and SIL is in the luck position to not have to be. Financially, thing niece is probably closer to me.

I'm gonna start sending her an email every couple of days with total no-frills/no-fail recipes. Gonna start with chicken wings. Her husband is a HUGE football fan and still crying over the Eagles. But I KNOW they'll probably have people over to watch games this weekend. A couple packages of REAL wings, tossed in seasoned flour and blasted in the oven till crisp is SOOO much cheaper and tastier than any take-out or frozen version.

ANy other ideas to pass along?
