Doc, that was an EXCELLENT post. Very informative. And it goes to show one can be passionate about a subject without getting overly emotional about it. And that is definitely a better way to win over others.

The idea you gave for a dinner was great too. Thank you!

With all due respect to you ladies, NUTRITION is important, especially when it comes to children.

Serving hamburger and instant rice mixed with canned soup may be easy, but it's decidedly unhealthy for you and your family.

Why not take the small amount of extra time to make something healthier for them? Use brown rice, ground turkey and skip the soup entirely. Skip the meat and make a rice and bean casserole. Add fresh or frozen vegetables.

And I am sorry if my directness is unsettling, but I stand by my previous statement because it is not just opinion, it's fact: 1000mg of sodium in one meal is bad for an adult, and would be shocking to feed to a child.

Please wake up to the fact that healthy food needn't be expensive or hard to fix. A few simple changes in your habits here and there will really benefit you in the long run.

Welcome to the community, JenniferC79!

I know when someone ridicules me, it just makes me that much more stubborn about my point. So generally people that know me avoid taking jabs at me if they are trying to convince me of a point I don't agree with.

My sister is a bit different, when someone ridicules her, it hurts her very deeply to the point of ongoing mental pain. She's very sensitive.

So it's great for everyone if people here can be sympathetic, empathetic, and avoid blatant or even subtle jabs. We're all different, all human, and all deserve the same respect.

And to get back on track, if you're at a loss for what to make for dinner, there are SO many options in the rice and noodles aisle of your local grocer when, paired with a meat, make a super fast, super easy entree for dinner.

Stick around. If you get past some of the negative comments there are some great ideas and a lot of humorous posts too! We're an ecclectic little group of "foodies" here :)

I like to use browned hamburger, mixing in cream of mushroom soup and cooked rice. Of course, serve with a vegetable-I like broccoli. After reading some of the comments previously, we need to remember that everybody has different points of view. We should not attack anyone for posting what they like, because do you think that ridiculing anyone will ultimately change their mind??

roloconrepresa, welcome to the community and don't let something that you see as frustrating put you off from joining in. We have a lot of excellent members here and the best way to combat negativity is to add even more positivity to the forums.

Just remember, any place that a lot of people congregate will always have its share of frustrating moments, you just have to stay positive and not let things bother you to a point that you respond negatively or not participate altogether -- and the great thing about a forum is that if you see some conversations that bother you because someone is being cruel or hateful is to use the "Report" link on the offending post(s) and if they break the Standards of the forum, they will be removed.

Welcome to the community, ainsco01. =)

This sounds easy to fix up, and something most people have on hand. Thanks for sharing!

I know this has a lot of salt too but, its fast easy cheap and I make sure my kids have a wide variety of fruits and veggies at ever meal so I hope they can still grow strong and healthy.
I just brown the hamburger 1-1 1/2 lbs (I usually use ground turkey now, but growing up we used hamburger) put 2 cups of water and 5 beef bouillon cubes or so and sliced mushrooms. Medium heat until the cubes dissolve. Serve over rice (brown or white) with the juice. I make steamed green beans and biscuits to go with.

Hmmm...even though I do not have a PhD I do believe that if a dish has 960 mg of sodium that would convert to .96 grams NOT 1000 grams.

But it's incredibly unhealthy! Kids shouldnt eat a dish that has 1000 grams of sodium per serving! And all that fat!

Calories 500 Total fat 19 g Saturated fat 10 g Cholesterol 100 mg Sodium 960 mg Carbohydrate 49 g Dietary fiber 1 g Sugars 5 g Protein 32 g Vitamin A 20 %DV Vitamin C 6 %DV Calcium 20 %DV Iron 20 %DV

It might be better if it were nutritious, too.

How about brown rice? Or a green vegetable instead of corn?

I also add cream of mushroom and a can of rotel and top with some shredded cheese. It's great!
