My menu is.. oh I don't know. lol We have a bunch of people in our family, all making and bringing something. I was asked to bring the same mashed potatoes I made at Christmas. They have cheese in them, lots and lots of cheese, and are SO good.
So I know we'll be having those at least.

It's only my husband and I, so Easter dinner is usually pretty simple. I already bought my ham (we'll have leftovers for weeks! LOL), I'll make buttered parsley potatos and asparagus. I also make a pineapple stuffing that goes great with ham. The hubby loves that stuff! And for dessert...homemade strawberry shortcake.
Oh! And I can't forget the chocolate bunnies! LOL

This post made me 'see' a traditional Italian family dinner.
It made me smile. =)

My Easter menu as any holiday menu in my large family is always a celebration of Italian-american traditions.. We start off with a large cold antipast, and other assorted tidbits,, then we move onto the the pasta course which includes homemade manicotti, meatballs , sausage &pizza rustica,,,Then we take a break and get ready for the main courses.. Usually a ham, &prime rib,, with roasted red potatoes , 2 different green vegtables, salad, and the rest of the trimmings,,, since i do all the cooking i only make one desert,,the Easter sweet pie,, everyone else brings a desert,, bring on the coffee, espresso, sambuca, &anisette ..
I always make sure i have tins with lids so that if i have leftovers(which i normally do because i tend to cook way too much food)that they can all take some home with them. I usually go overboard with cooking on the holidays but, it's something i remember as a child with my family and i am keeping up the tradition with my children..

Hi-fives hotbiscuit! I'm married to a man who you have to pry out of the house with a crowbar, so I can see the other side as well, but it isn't personal. It's just harder for some people to socialize.

Thanks ladies . Am going to just call/email everybody and invite them over for a simple get together the following weekend. Who ever comes does and who ever doesn't, well, better luck next time lol. I do this more for my kids as I lost my parents when I was young and only have 1 sister and 1 brother so I want to have my kids be as close to both sides of the family and they love spending time with their cousins but don't get to see them often. Oh, well. This is me letting it go...

My family is close, as in we talk a lot, but we're all scattered, so I'm used to not seeing them for a lot of holidays. My husbands family are all in the area and get together for everything, even the extended extended people.
Sounds like you fit with the get together all the time side, so I can understand why it would make you feel .
I second Jane, I wouldn't take it personally, she might be one of those types that doesn't feel the need to get together. Invite other people you like spending time with. =)

I wouldn't take it personally. If there are other families involved, you might check with them, offer your hospitality but also mention you SIL's suggestion of getting together in the summer. Just see what happens.
Some of the churches in our little town are having potlucks for their congregation as the substitute for the big family get togethers.

We always do an organized potluck. The hostess supplies the meat and the main hot sidedish and the rest are given the option from a list as to what they want to bring. The last one to call usually gets stuck making the relish tray which for some weird reason is a running joke w/my family??? Am irratated w/DH's fam. Just talked to my SIL and offered to do Easter here the Sat or Sun after Easter and her response was "I was thinking we should only get together for Christmas Eve and once during the summer" Seriously, how am I supposed to take that???

I love mystery menus. All you people are just way to organized for me. All I know for sure is that we'll have asparagus.

Mom and I are playing it lazy this year. Instead of cooking forever and standing forever fixing and cleaning. We are kind of doing it potluck. We usually us the china the silver the whole nine yards but moms fixing the ham my husband always does the bunny cake (one year he gave the bunny an earring and my neices and nephews only want him to do it now. You never know what it's going to look like, it could be sycadelic for all they know.) I am fixing corncake, eggs and buying bread. That way we can enjoy the kids and not be exhausted afterwards. If this works I may try to talk mom into do thanksgiving that way. By the time her and I get everything cleaned up everyone is leaving. Either that or get some more help!
