Try an easy beef (can substitute chicken or ground buffalo) stroganoff recipe. Got it off this website. The recipe I ususally use is a bit different. I use Healthy Request cream of mushroom soup w/ beef and cream of chicken soup w/ chicken - instead of boullion (alot less sodium). Also cook the noodles seperate and spoon stroganoff mixture over the noodles. If it gets too thick add a small amount of milk. Serve with broc or salad. It is something a bit different and really good. I hope it helps.

Creamy Beef Stroganoff
Prep Time:
5 minTotal Time:
25 minMakes:
6 servings, 1 cup each1 lb. beef sirloin steak, cut into strips 1 medium onion, cut into thin wedges 1 Tbsp. oil 1 can (8 oz.) mushroom pieces and stems, undrained 2 beef bouillon cubes 4 cups (8 oz.) medium egg noodles, uncooked 1 container (8 oz.) BREAKSTONE'S or KNUDSEN Sour Cream BROWN steak with onion in hot oil in large skillet.

STIR in 1-1/2 cups water, mushrooms and liquid, the bouillon cubes and noodles. Bring to boil. Reduce heat to medium-low; cover. Simmer 10 to 12 min. or until noodles are tender.

STIR in sour cream; cook an additional 2 min., stirring occasionally.
Kraft Kitchens TipsServing SuggestionTry serving with cooked baby carrots and a quick bagged salad tossed with your favorite KRAFT Dressing, such as CATALINA.Make it EasyCut steak into strips when partially frozen for easier handling.Jazz It UpAdd 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce with water. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley, if desired.

Your welcome! Just thought it might help! My husband, as well, can be frustrating. He wont touch chicken... sometimes pork but rarely and no seafood what so ever.. Im not a big seafood lover either but I need variety! Usually my dinners have ground meat in them because steak can get very expensive. He needs meat with every meal. i grew up having meat only on rare occasions. And he was raised the opposite.

Here's another thought - make a list of 'new' things to try, then go shopping WITH your husband :)

How about stir fry? Ask your hubby to pick up a package or two of frozen stir fry veggies next time he shops. Slice up & stir fry a chicken breast or some pork, then add in the veggies & soy, teriyaki or sweet & sour sauce. If you like, add in a drained can of mandarin oranges or pineapple chunks just before serving.

My "must have meat at every meal' guy doesn't even notice that I've used a single chicken breast to feed our family of 5. There's so much vegetables that he has a full plate, so he's happy.

Another thought is to grab a box of Hambuger Helper or Rice-a-Roni. I use half the meat that is recommended & add veggies to strech it out further.

Thanks-I did not even think about the option of buying a counter top oven! What a great idea!

Here's one for your slow-cooker:

Crockpot Macaroni and Cheese

1 16-oz. pkg. elbow macaroni, cooked and drained
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup flour
2 tsp. salt
4 cups milk
1 16-oz. block of Velveeta, cubed
Paprika

Melt butter or margarine in saucepan. Stir in flour. Gradually add milk and stir until thickened. Add cheese and stir until completely melted. Combine macaroni and cheese sauce in deep crockpot. Sprinkle with paprika. Cover and cook on LOW for 4 hours.

Hope this helps. . .

Microwave Lasagna

1 lb. ground beef
1 14-1/2 oz. can diced tomatoes, undrained
1 6-oz. can tomato paste
1-1/2 tsp. salt
1-1/2 tsp. basil
1/2 tsp. oregano
1/8 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 cup water
2 cups cottage cheese
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
1 egg
1 Tbsp. parsley flakes
9 uncooked lasagna noodles
2 cups shredded Mozzarella cheese

Brown ground beef (stovetop or microwave). Add tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, garlic powder & water. Simmer until mixture boils (or microwave 4-5 minutes). Meanwhile, combine cottage cheese, Parmesan cheese, egg and parsley; mix well.

Pour 1-1/2 cups tomato sauce mixture into a 8x12 glass baking dish; spread evenly. Place 3 uncooked noodles evenly over sauce. Top with half the cottage cheese mixture. Sprinkle with half the Mozzarella cheese. Spoon 1 cup sauce evenly over cheese. Place 3 more noodles on sauce and top with even layers of remaining cottage cheese mixture, Mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce, reserving a bit of sauce and Mozzarella for top. Top with final 3 noodles and reserved sauce and Mozzarella cheese.

Cover tightly and microwave on high for 15 minutes. Microwave on medium for 15-20 additional minutes, until noodles are tender. Remove cover. Sprinkle top with Parmesan cheese and microwave an additional 2 minutes. Let stand for 10 minutes before cutting to serve.

I have cooked meatloaf in my crockpot turns out good, another dish that I do a lot in the crock pot-put some tator tots in the bottom of the crock pot then add cooked hamburger and onions and then on top of that put 2 cans of cream of mushroom soup. I make stews in my crock pot, soups, chicken, roasts, swiss steak gosh the list is just endless. I love my crock pot. We even have one that we take camping. We get a spot that we have power and plug in. An electic fry pan would be good to have also can turn down the heat and bake.
If husband is buying the same thing over and over maybe it is time that went along and threw some other items into the cart. tell him we are having smething new 2 times a week and then make it 3 a few weeks down the road intermixrd with the "old" through out the week
Good luck-hold out for the oven that you want.

Yes. I know what your going through. My oven has been broken since well... forever. Things just keep coming up so the oven priority gets pushed aside. Right before Thanksgiving I purchased a roaster oven from Rival. it was $60. (there are cheaper versions that were around $40)You put it on the counter and plug it in. Kind of bulky but in a pinch with the holidays coming up I needed something. Ive cooked my Thanksgiving turkey, Christmas and New years prime rib, chicken parmesan and cornbread. You just have to keep an eye on it. Hope this helps!!!!

Try typing in "one skillet" in the dinner search field on this website. You'll see many different ideas depending on what your husband "brings home". May even inspire him to try something new;\. Most of the recipes are pretty quick and easy, and I'd think you'd find something everyone could agree on. I'm a real fan of many.

Hey! Sorry about the oven. I love my croc-pot. :) As a matter of fact, I have a 3 qt and a 5.5 qt!!! Don't be afraid to try new things. My husband and two young children love spaghetti sauce, tacos, mac and cheese (homemade) and more all from the croc pot. Large meats like roasts are easy and yummy. I buy the cheap stuff on sale and it is very tender. Chicken and potatoes is easy and delic. I recommend the "Fix it and Forget it" cookbook. A must have if you have a croc pot. Tons of yummy things. A lot of the recipes use canned soups or instant broths, etc. So not real complex or weird ingredients. You can make lasagna too! Just make sure the pot is at least 1/2 full because sometimes I don't fill it the right amount and stuff gets dark around the edges. Good luck and hold out for a really great stove!!

broken oven-and stuck in a rut with limited choices

Posted: Jan 12, 2008 4:37 PM
Our oven has been broken for months, (still saving for a new one). The stove works, and we have an older model microwave. I feel that we eat the same stuff over and over again-quick frozen food the children like. My husband and I are so tired of chicken nuggets, tortellini/ravioli, frozen microwave pizza singles/rolls, and pancakes/scrambled eggs. We have two daughters, 7 and 9. The girls won't eat Mexican-type fare, and only one likes salads. I really need some ideas for child-friendly dinners that will get me out of this rut. Oh, I also have a slow cooker, which I have never used yet. PS-my husband does the shopping and gets the same thing over and over again, (maybe that is the problem...) despite my requests. He is reluctant to try new ideas that I suggest-a very "must-have-meat-at-every-meal" kind of guy. I eat very little red meat. Thanks for any input.
