Do you think I could have your recipe for Spumoni Cookies? I love Spumoni Ice Cream, and I think I really love those cookies!

Could I have your recipe for the orange slice cake? I have one recipe, and I'd like to see if yours is the same as mine. Does yours use those candy orange slices?

One year we made gingerbreadmen and wrapped them in tissue paper (enough for each family member), and put them in a holiday plastic bucket with a jar of sprinkles, some icing, and a canister of mini m&m's. They all had fun decorating and eating their creation.

I need to do that again!

Our family (Mother and 3 sisters, neices and nephews) cook together to give away goodie baskets to shut ins, loved ones, etc. We really like using the ziploc bags that are holiday specific. Can't always find them. We have a Big Lots Store in town and they have been a great source for holiday food bags with twist ties. We have also used canning jars depending upon what type of treats we have made. Cookies, candies, etc are given. We like alot of family favorites - orange slice cookies, brown sugar cookies, pecan tassies, heath bars, cheese bars...... oh I'm getting excited for our cooking session next week. Nothing like getting together to share and cook.

First, I want to second that. Share please!

Now for the thread. I love baking cookies. The kids like helping (usually so they can lick the bowl, but they do have fun!) There are a lot of older people in our neighborhood, and a lot of friends of ours that flat out don't enjoy baking, or have time, so all the above love getting a bag of cookies.

What we always do is make a list of favorites, and a list of any that have allergies or strong dislikes, this gives us our "base". Then we mix it up, everyone on the list gets a mix of everyone else's favorites (along with some of their own) and we pack them up in pretty gift bags.

The kids and I have fun making a mess and licking bowls, and I've never met anyone that doesn't smile over getting a bag of homemade cookies.

I love the reusable containers, too. That way they came keep them fresh longer, and they are great for sneaking a bite of something and putting the lid on quick so no one knows, or so my hubby tells me!;) I also go to the dollar tree and buy some $1 christmas plates and put them on that. Tins are great. My mother in law craddles each selection in wax paper and then nestles it in the tin, so they are seperate, but do not require 2 -4containers.

msminnie,
"What do you give your goodies in?"
We have "Dollar Tree Stores" here--amazing what you can find to put goodies in. This year have found some really nice reusable plastic containers with a red ringed top that I can put ribbon on-this way they can aso reuse the container. Tins are nice too. I will get three different sizes, fill and then stack and tie a thick ribbon around all three.

for gift giving, use colored decorative bags, cute small boxes with celophane wrap.. or do as i do...i use brown paper lunch bags (the small ones)lined with wax paper, and tie them up with christmas colored ribbons and tags...

Yum, love puppy chow and have made it for years. A quick trick to mix is to place your cereal in a paper bag, pour the chocolate mixture on top, fold the top of the bag to "seal" and shake it. The cereal gets coated nicely and there isn't as much breakage as when you are trying to stir it with a spoon. After the chocolate is evenly coated add your powdered sugar to the bag and shake again, pour into a bowl and enjoy!

What do you give your goodies in? I have done tins, but have to mix the goodies. I thought of using paper chinese cartons. Just curious.
My new favorites are perpermint pinwheel cookies and pepermint patties. They both are time consumimg to make though.

"puppy chow"

Was this a test to make sure we were actually reading? lol So other than something you'd feed a puppy, what else is there that is called puppy chow that falls under desserts? Or is that a gift you give the in-laws? lol Just kidding. But seriously, what is it?
