I would think that you could water it down and put it in a bottle for a little one. Think of all the calcium and protein!

Introducing little ones to Velveeta before the age of 12 months is certainly a good idea. I agree.

I remember what I liked, YoYo Ma...bananas, applesauce, and boiled potatoes and carrots mashed together.

You remember what your favorite foods were when you were a year old? And I thought I had a good memory.

What a great occasion to get the whole family together for. Happy advance 1st B'day to your daughter!

Think about what your fav foods were as a child. Anything that is portable is great for such a large group.

I have used the Velveeta Apple dip from this site and there are many kid friendly recipes. Cupcakes are and easy way to serve the cake. For fun ideas I check out BakeDecorateCelebrate.com

Well happy (early) birthday to her, first of all! :)

I think having other friends or family bring some food would be a wonderful idea. The best way to save money, is to make things yourself. So maybe, if you're going to have a "theme" for her party, maybe you could decide what foods you'd like to have, and print out individual ideas for people who are willing to cook or help prepare?

If you want to do sandwiches, instead of buying the giant sub, maybe one person brings a certain amount of cold cuts, another person brings another amount of a different kind, someone else can make a side ... etc.

Then everyone will have a task and it will save you all time and money on the big birthday so you can truly enjoy it :)

As far as for the kids, depending on how many will be there, ordering a lot of pizzas can also be costly, but maybe if you make Mini pizzas or check out this sites kid friendly snacks you might find some ideas to keep them happy as well

Another thing, if you have a membership to Costco, BJ's Warehouse, or Sam's Club, even if someone coming to the party is a member, that would definitely save money in the long run buying food and other party necessities in bulk!

Hope it all works out hon!

Maria

BBQ-ing will definately be a big deal with having to have someone stand there and cook. Sandwich's are a really good idea. You may want to serve some kind of fruit salad or Kabobs kids love that along with some veggies & dip. Chips & pretzels and you got it made. It is about the child so don't stress too much about making everyone else happy. Do what is easiest for you. Maybe ask for help. Ask each family to bring a dish that way if you do BBQ the side dishes would be covered. But try to keep it simply and enjoy the day.

My daughter-in-law planned my granddaughter's first birthday around her favorite book "Ten Little Ladybugs." She kept it simple: Subway sandwich tray, chips, dips, veggie tray...lots of finger food. As in your case, everyone was more than willing to bring food. It was perfect because as you know everyone was there to watch the birthday girl eat the birthday cake. My daughter-in-law made the cakes to look like ladybugs. Keeping it simple and enjoying the reason for the celebration is what is important.

Planning 1st Birthday Party, Need Help!

Posted: Sep 27, 2006 11:44 AM
I'm planning my daughter's 1st birthday party in November, but clueless as to what I should do. My problem is what kind of food to make. It looks like there's going to be a large gathering (up to 50). We have a large family and friends who want to participate in our child's 1st birthday. We are planning to have it in a park. Weather will not be an issue. I need ideas on what kind of food we should serve our guests. Since its close to Thanksgiving, then Christmas, we dont want to spend outrageous amounts of money either. We thought about doing the BBQ-ing hamburger/hot dog thing or calling Subway and ordering their big sandwhich and then get some sides. I'm looking for foods that are both kid-friendly, but adult appropriate as well and on a budget.
