dee, it depends on the day. some days, humerous, sometimes, sarcastic, sometimes, i just dont know...LOL . i am glad that YOU liked the pouched tuna. there are also a couple of flavored ones out there that i like to make a salad with without mayo. i add some chopped veggies and throw it ontop of some lettuce. sometimes i like to add dill to my salad. so many things you can do with tuna and egg salads. when i am poor, thats what i live on so i get creative... glad you liked it. -j

jen3314..you are too much!!!LOL I can't read your personality in the postings. Don't know if your humerous or sarcastic, but either one...your cool with me. Anyway, I was going to wait until later to let you know about the tuna salad. I picked up StarKist Chunk Light Tuna in sunflower oil but.....by mistake. I didn't mean to pick up "light". It didn't matter because I thought it was very good and I DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO DRAIN IT. The texture was 10x's better then in a can. I thought it would be in a pouch without liquid but they either had water or sunflower oil...StarKist did anyway. I didn't think it was pricey because for the 7.06 oz. pouch there was a lot of tuna and it was chunky not mushy and full of liquid like in the cans. I bet the Albacore will be just as good, if not better.
I checked the little I had left (on purpose)and it is NOT WATERY. So you turned me on to a good thing. I thought it was delicious and used very little MW in it and more on the bread.
Thanks to everyone that contributed to my dilemma and helped me solve it. Dee's test kitchen is now closed. Tuna in a pouch for a best rating of "5" got a "5".
Dee

Michele....thanks for the info on the technical issues. Took a month but that's okay.
I didn't know about Vidalia onions being more watery...thought they all had about the same water content. I did pick up tuna in a pouch but have no green onion. I'm going to try it anyway and I don't plan on having leftovers in the future.
Thanks!!!

Hi ridgleydee, Sorry you have had trouble logging on to the message boards. We were experiencing some technical issues a few weeks ago but they have all been resolved.
I thought I would just add one comment to the watery tuna salad discussion. Vidalia onions (and other sweet varieties like Maui and Walla Walla) have a higher water content than regular yellow onions and green onions. You might have to trade off the watery problem for the sweet flavor of the Vidalia. I agree with the advice to start with less mayonnaise or Miracle Whip, especially if you plan to have leftovers.

Geez guys what did I start here!!!! I am going to try the pouch tuna because even though it may well be pricer....it has to be better then the canned. Tamire1 I have to agree with Jen3314 but do appreciate your feedback. You know, I am not about 'opening a can of tuna and whatever' but since you've "never" experienced a watery salad....I definitely am doing something wrong and must be in the "minority".
So, I get the pouches..try them..cold eggs..little MW to start (spread more on the bread), Vidalia onions, celery, little salt and I should have perfect salads.....GOT IT!
I'll be the KraftFoods test kitchen on this one, LOL.
(Hey Jen..how aout another day of being able to login!!)

just stating my peace. i never said that there was something wrong with draining canned tuna, chicken...etc. but in my opinion, the pouches are better. andi think that the quality of the tuna is better, again a little pricier, but better...

GEEZ! jen..So combative!! GEEZ!!! I just did a Google myself for ATK and did not find what I SAW on an aired episode. So sorry for that! Don't know what I could do to remedy that!! That having been said...I DID make it clear that I have NOT tried the "pouch tuna". If YOU think it is a great product, I CERTAINLY can NOT comment. I must say that I have never had problem with opening and draining a regular, right off the grocery store shelf can of tuna and turn it into WHATEVER...

and canned isnt? thats about as soggy and mushy as you can get...as, for the canned variety, mushy, oily and soggy, but you have to drain the liquid out of it before you can make anything of it. yeah, its good. but the pouch is better. and yes a bit pricier, but better. as for america's test kitchen, i would like to see that link where is says it is soggier... and when i do see that, i would like to beg differently...tamire, where ever your info you came across, sorry, but it is incorrect...
after googling america's test kitchen, and after typing in pouch tuna vs. canned tuna, coming up with no results, then typing both canned tuna and then pouch tuna, separately, and further coming up with no results. there fore, i stand by my word...

Yeah, how about that Jen3314!!! Ever since I joined I've had a couple of problems with logging in but (holding my breath) I've been lucky for a total of 2 days now....no glitches!
I always seem to have leftovers and yes, the next day is when it is watery. I am guilty of not using cold eggs so that is where I will start and I will give the packaged tuna a try. I've been wanting to try it anyway.
Appreciate the help and will let you guys know how it goes for me next time around.

welcome back, again ridgelydee, or otherwise known as dee ridgely... when you are making your egg salad, make sure your hard boiled eggs are COLD. it makes a better salad and i agree with bstefens that start the salad out a bit dry and add mayo on the bread, although, i have never had a problem with watery salad... how long do you keep it in the fridge? my egg salad is usually gone within a day. after that, it will get watery... same with tuna salad, chicken salad, etc... i dont recommend leaving your onions and celery to dry overnight as said in another post. it will get soggy, flat and lose flavor. salt and pepper your salad while mixing it, and serve immediately. dont make it ahead of time to leave for a day.
if it does get a bit watery, just drain the water out, but dont add anything. stir it back up and it should be fine...
on another note, i started using the tuna in the packet as opposed to the canned. less work and it tastes a bit better. good luck and let us know what you come up with.
