Kids who like real cheese often find velveeta offensive because of its bland taste and weird texture. And its garish color.

When I was a kid, we were very poor and had very little. I remember eating noodles with ketchup because it's all we had. During that time, velveeta was a huge treat when we had it, espeically in grilled cheese sandwiches. Even now it's still a product my family uses. It's very rich and creamy and nothing else melts like it. I don't know of any kids that would turn it down. I still love a good grilled velveeta sandwich along with fresh tomato soup in the summer.

My father and uncle owned a number of apartment buildings in the 1970's.

I know they baited their rat traps with velveeta.

I doubt if they ever refigerated it.

My kids called it "plastic cheese." We never had any in the house but they were sometimes served it at their friends' houses. My kids refused. Politely, of course.

My daddy taught me to fish for catfish (bottom dwellers) with chunks of velveeta.

It's not really cheese, so you don't have to be fussy about how you store it.

We left it out in the sun all day when we went fishing. All it did was soften up like plastic. We put it back in the cooler when we were done and it hardened right up again.

We didn't bother to wrap it, either.

Hi,

They have veleeta cheese plastic holder the snaps down tight to keep it fresh. You can find it sometimes with the veleeta cheese.

Hi Cher,
Welcome to the message boards! I recommend that once you have opened the Velveeta, you remove the foil wrapper and wrap the entire loaf tightly with plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator (40°F). The Velveeta should not have any crystallization. Once opened, you should use the Velveeta within 8 weeks.

?:| Hello, I am new to this site.
I was wondering if anyone has a good way to store velveeta after opening.
I have tried wax paper, cellophane and foil.
It seems to crystalize with wax paper & cellophane.
And foil is a nono.
Any help would be appreciated.
