The new Catalina stinks! First of all, as a forty year old man, I am risking banishment from my good ol boys club for even posting on a predominantly female website...but it is worth it if the powers that be hear my cry!!!! Bring back the old Catalina... I am a life-long Catalina lover and will forever be scarred if the old recipe is not reinstated. I lost 50 pounds by increasing exercise and eating better and Catalina got me through...a little went a long way... PLEASE HELP.

GREAT NEWS FOLKS!! I TOO HAVE JOINED TO COMPLAIN, BUT AS IM SURE WE CAN ALL AGREE, IT WILL DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING SO WHATS THE POINT!! THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT I JUST TRIED MY OWN RECIPE FOR MAKING THE DRESSING AND BY GEORGE ITS ALMOST IDENTICLE! YOU TAKE....
1/2 CUP SUGAR 2 TSP SALT 1 DASH OF PAPRIKA 1/4 TSP OF ONION POWDER 1/2 TSP CELERY SEED OR CELERY SALT (OR EVEN 1/2 OF EACH TO MAKE 1/2 TSP TOTAL) 1/2 TSP DRY OR REGULAR MUSTARD I USED YELLOW CAUSE THATS ALL I HAD : ) 1/2 CUP OF VINEGAR (I USED WHITE) 2/3 CUP OF KETCHUP 1 CUP OF VEG OIL (I USED 3/4 A CUP OF CANOLA INSTEAD) 1/2 TSP CHILI POWDER (I DIDNT USE, CAUSE I DIDNT HAVE ANY)
MIX ALL INGREDIENTS TOGETHER USING A WISK OR WHATEVER YOU HAVE ON HAND! POUR INTO JAR, BOTTLE OR SOMETHING WITH A TIGHT LID. I USED AN OLD PLASTIC WATER BOTTLE SO I CAN SHAKE IT WELL. YOU WILL NEED TO REFIGERATE AND ALWAYS SHAKE WELL BEFORE USE.
TRUST ME FOLKS.....IT IS 100% BETTER THAN THE "NEW" CATALINA CRAP, AND ITS THE CLOSEST THING I HAVE HAD IN A LONG TIME! GOOD LUCK AND ENJOY!

I don't exactly know how to act right now... I just got a "reimbursement coupon" from Kraft for a free bottle of Kraft dressing! And I quote, "We were sorry to hear that your purchase did not meet your expectations." Well feather my feet! I don't recall complaining anywhere but out "here". The timing creeped me out, as suggested recently on this post, I JUST bought a bottle of Olde Cape Cod Honey French yesterday. I appreciate the coupon but time will tell if I find a use for it.

I just this second realized that I have a bottle of Olde Cape Cod Balsamic & Olive Oil dressing in my pantry.... SUCCESS, the brand IS in my local market, next time I'll just pick up the Vineyard Honey French and I'll be set. Thanks again for the tip. Hope my taste buds agree with yours and it can be my new replacement for the now GONE Catalina... Thx again...

alchemiss, thanks for the tip about Olde Cape Cod Vineyard Honey French. I can't say as I've ever seen it, but, then again, I never looked beyond Catalina. Well, until now, of course. Thanks, I'll be looking for it.

Well my screen name says it all! Mrs. Wuzloyal. I thought I would try the honey flavor Catalina yesterday, thinking that maybe it would be like the old Catalina but sweeter. Well this too was a big mistake and a waste of my hard earned money! Who made the decision to change any of the kraft dressing flavors? I have five children, when I serve a meal they expect their dressing, the only dressing used in this house, Catalina! Now they don't have it the foods we use it with are no longer the same. I have to cook other meals .... and I make sure I buy no Kraft products to serve those. Just one question.... when a product doesn't move off the counters in the stores (Kroger, Suwanee, Georgia) what do you do then? I know your sales must have dropped, but I guess us little ppl don't matter to such a big company! And I thought we are the ones that kept you in business. Ha

I am very, yes, ANGRY with the recipe change on the Catalina dressing. This happens to be the only dressing I really like. I have always liked the unique flavor and it is a versitile dressing. You can use it as a marinate, etc. But now!!!!! the New Flavor is NASTY. Why would you want to change something that works? Here you want loyal customers but then you make enemies by changing what they like. What is wrong with you people? Change it back!! Please!!!.... If I can't get the old Catalina that I like, then I will have to try other companies and just might buy from them, out of anger. From what I have been reading, I am not alone with my opinion on this issue. Now the question remains.....what is Kraft going to do about it? It will be interesting to see if they listen to the customers who buy the product or not.

Re: Kraft
Since we have yet to see any formal -- or informal -- response to the 17,000+ viewed thread about the original Catalina dressing, I suspect the consultant(s) who changed the recipe formula are now manning the message boards and mail rooms.
Kraft's customer base has spoken, continues to speak, upon deaf ears. This will hardly help public opinion...
For the thousands of people who signed on for this site solely to inquire, as did I, I have a bit of a gift to share:
OLDE CAPE COD VINEYARD HONEY FRENCH DRESSING.
It's close in taste, it's already made and at a grocer near you.
I commend us all for trying -- in a business that relies on brand loyalty -- but time to take our dollars elsewhere.

I emailed them and actually got a response. No explanation for the change in Cataline, but they are sending me a refund.
My mom used to make a dressing that was similar to catalina, I went to cooks.com and found some recipes to try.

Kraft will lose more business. I have thrown away 2 bottles of the new Kraft dressings, one French and one Creamy Italian. Both tasted rancid- and ruined my salad. It's not just the Catalina and Ranch that stink. I bet others are awful also, but I won't be wasting my money to find that out for myself.
I wish I would have read this site before I spent money on that second bottle of dressing, and I will be informing my friends, relatives, and those at the other online communities I visit to stay far away from the new Kraft dressings.

It's awful!!!! I too thought it was spoiled - I had noticed the color difference, but didn't even know they changed the product. Would have been nice to know before I spent my money on something that ended up in the trash. One lucky afternoon I found an almost expired bottle of the old version that I'm using very sparingly. I'm switching my loyalty to WishBone.

I have to say I am really disappointed with the new "improved" Catalina dressing. I was an avid Catalina fan in fact Catalina was my favorite salad dressing. That was until today anyway. I thought that the dressing looked diffrent but didn't think anything of if until I took a bite and to my surprise found a tatally diffrent taste. I am not saying that its awful but its not Catalina anymore. Not the Catalina we all know and love. I am sort of a picky salad dressing eater and thought I finally found one that I could stick with unfortunately it didnt stick with me. Now that the taste has changed I will have to move on to a diffrent brand of salad dressing and away from Kraft. I don't want to find another Kraft flavor I like just so you can go and change it too. I thought I was the only one who felt this way but obviously I am not. Hopefully you will listen to the consumer and change back to the old recipe but until then I will take my buisness elsewhere. Why did you have to go and mess with a good thing?

I was at Giant Eagle yesterday shopping and noticed fully stocked shelves of the new Kraft dressings...Must not be selling that well (imagine that ). Unless of course GE always keeps their shelves stocked which I find hard to believe!!!

I can't believe you Bozo's changed the Catalina recipe. Like several of the posts to this forum I too was raised with Catalina. I'm now 47 and have been eating Catalina for years as it is my favorite dressing just as it was my mothers favorite also. I will sometimes get up late at night and prepare a salad for a snack. When I put the new "improved" Catalina on the other day I thought it was spoiled. Awful, never again will I purchase Catalina and I will strive to buy other brands than Kraft. You have stolen away a favorite food for me and have betrayed all Catalina lovers. Try Ken's Steak House dressings hopefully they won't betray the public messing with tried and true flavors.
