I'm 55 and have a normal weight and BMI. What exercise will help firm (and get rid of an ab "roll" when sitting) the area below the waist in front?

Kraft LivActive products will really speed up your digestion. It may not be pleasant, though.

Abs are the last part of the body to show improvement. Trust me, I have been working on and off on mine for 10 years. I have worked with a trainer and a registered dietician and for what it's worth here are some tips: 1. Everybody's metabolism reacts differently. My husband can handle more protein. If I eat less carbs, I'm always hungry. Work with an rd (registered dietician) to set up a plan that fits your metabolism and the foods you can tolerate AND the foods you like to eat. She also stresses that eating "as close to natural" i.e. organic, not processed is good. 2. I HATE to exercise. So I have to have an exercise buddy or a trainer or some means to MAKE myself do it. 3. I have found that doing sit-ups on the exercise ball is much better for my back (I'm 58 -- old). Most balls come with a book or tape with a series of exercises that are fairly easy -- unless you fall off the ball like I sometimes do. Then the laughter is good cardio. 4. My dogs make me walk. Even 10 or 15 minutes a day is better than nothing. And I consciously take stairs instead of an elevator -- unless it's the 20th floor (ha!) Hope this helps. . .

I have been trying to lose weight and have lost 13.5 lbs. However, I exercise daily but my underarms do not seem to be firming up even with my weight lifting session. Any ideas out there that I can try?

Sorry Arlene, I've sort of given up.
That's why I'm here instead of at Cooking Light's website.

Welcome. eabadu.
Have you checked out the Recipes in the "Healthy Living" section on the top ot the page? You can fill out the information for the "Meal and Fitness Planner" section and get ideas there. It suggests three meals a day and snacks as well based on the information you put in.
I like to eat fish and seafood as well as poultry and I use spices in my cooking. I use leaner cuts of beef and spice them and use a meat mallet to tenderize as well as incorporate the flavors onto the meat.
Good luck, and welcome again.

I am having surgery in January my Doctor told me that I need to lose weight (especially in my stomach area where the incision will be) to decrease the risk of blood clots and to decrease the time it takes for me to recover. I have always been large, and after the birth of my daughter 4 yrs ago, it has been extra hard to trim down. There is only so much "baked chicken and salad" that I can eat. I really need some ideas that go along with my aerobics, ab and walking workouts and will keep things interesting and flavorful.

>I am 55 and in the past 3 months have lost 16lbs and over 9inches. My question is how often and how much protein should one eat when working out 3 to 4 times a week? It depends on many things, including age, weight, level and type of activity, medical history, etc... The best way to figure out what your protein needs are, is to see a Registered Dietitian (find one at www.eatright.org) who can help. You could go to www.mypyramid.gov for a general calculation, but it will not take medical history, type of exercise into account. General guidelines recommend 0.8g per kg of body weight, but that number can vary based on the items I mentioned above.

I've had four children and the loose skin is part of being a mother. The doctor told me the extent of the skin going back depends on heredity and age -- and time. Toning up makes it a little better but, short of surgery, you will never go back to what you were before.

I have had two babies, both weighed over 8 lbs. One was natural and one was c-section. I have lost all of my baby weight, but I am still about 25 lbs.+ overweight. Is there anyway except surgery to tone up my abs? I hate the looks of my stomach. I have stretch marks and extra skin...help!
